Prize Dartmoor Greyface Ram at Solomons Farm

We have a small, show quality, flock of Dartmoor Greyface sheep which are now a rare breed.

They are the local sheep of our area, descended from breeds who grazed the low ground in and around Dartmoor.  As would be expected, they are a hardy breed, developed to withstand harsh winters and exposed conditions found on the open moorlands.   A medium sized, docile and hornless sheep, they are popular with the part time enthusiasts and pet owners.   They were bred for their lustre long wool that was traditionally used for blankets, serge, carpets and cloth.  The fleece often weighs 6kgs and over.

Slow growing, they mature at four years when they provide excellent mutton.

The ewes are good mothers but the lambs do need feeding,  particularly when bred away from the West country.
