Bourbon Red TurkeysThe Bourbon Red Turkey is named after Bourbon County in Kentucky's Bluegrass region, where it originated in the late 1800s. When turkeys became commercialized in the 1950's, many of the old breeds became very rare. The Rare Breeds Survival Trust encouraged the setting up of small collections and we now keep these magnificent red birds. Of placid temperament, they are a delight for the small enthusiast. They achieve good weights and are the perfect free range Xmas bird. Chicks, fertile eggs and sometimes breeding trios are available. Bantams
Malcolm has been involved with poultry all his life. For the past 30 years he has been on the Poultry Club council, latterly as Chairman and President. He is also a Poultry Club Judge. Over the years we have kept most of the pure breed of bantams but now concentrate on Silver Seabrights, white Rosecombs, Nankins and miniature Anconas. Fertile eggs and breeding birds are sometimes available.
